2010 — Jan Arrives

Jan arrived in Canada first — in 2010, on a working permit, with a background in Veterinary Medicine and Marketing Sales, and a big promise to make. Nolibelle, a registered nurse, was still back home. The plan was simple: get settled, build a good life, and bring her over in 2013.

The Problem

But nobody warned us about what comes next. We listened to friends. We listened to advisors. We trusted the people around us the way most immigrants do — because when you're new to a country, you lean on whoever seems to know the system. That advice put us into serious financial trouble.

The Turning Point

We are professionals. We studied. We are capable of learning — so that's exactly what we did. We stopped trusting guesses and started studying the Canadian financial system from the ground up.
